I had done a little research on some of the lighthouses that guide our path, and for some reason, this one stood out to me more than the others.

For one, it was red, not something you see very often in my home province of New Brunswick. Two, it had an actual house attached to it. And if you’ve been following me for a while, you know that as a kid, I dreamed of living in a lighthouse.

So, naturally, Pointe-à-la-Renommée was one I that was really drawing me in.

But there was a third reason, one I knew nothing about before we arrived. And that story wouldn't reveal itself until we were got there.

We were barely into Quebec when the universe gave us our first little sign that this was not going to be your average road trip. I was driving the rental car. One of those keyless-start situations. We had just crossed into Quebec when we decided to pull over, stretch our legs and grab a few snacks.

And, as fate would have it, we had just received a phone call from the car rental company.

“Is everything okay with the car? Are you finding everything to your liking? ”

“Yes!” we confidently assured them. “Everything was absolutely fine.” Until……

The loges sit just a few steps from the water, tucked into a small cove at the foot of the cliffs. From inside, the enormous glass front makes the Saint-Laurent feel almost like it's part of the room.

At first glance, you might think you're looking out at the ocean.

And honestly, it sure feels like it.

The river is so wide here that the other side disappears completely, leaving nothing but water meeting sky on the horizon.
