Experience Comfort and Style: “La Gitane” and “La Boheme” at Estrella Glamping

Veronique and Marcel, the hosts, are pure gold—they welcomed me like an old friend, and you can tell they’ve poured their hearts into this place. Every corner of the Gîte feels like home, with just the right touch of thoughtful details, A mix of antique and modern that make you want to kick back and forget the rest of the world.

The Gîte itself is a charming two-bedroom cottage that offers the perfect mix of privacy and shared spaces, with each room rented separately.

Downstairs, you’ll find La Gitane, an inviting bedroom featuring a queen-size bed, a flat-screen TV just right for some Netflix and chill, and a bathroom located outside the room on the other side of the beautiful antique armoire.

Discover Unique Vintage Finds at Deco Verte in Shippagan, NB

In case you were wondering where Veronique, the owner of Estrella Glamping, finds her unique vintage and antique pieces, cause I sure did—look no further!

This adorable boutique is a true accumulation of treasures from the past. If you're on the hunt for a statement piece, Deco Verte has a fantastic selection that Valérie, the owner, has personally curated.

It’s also a fantastic spot for DIY enthusiasts, with a range of Fusion paint products available. Valérie is always ready to help bring your vision to life. In fact, she’s even going to help me create a cohesive colour palette for my own home!

Why Aquarium NB in Shippagan is a Must-Visit for All Ages

While I was in Shippagan on that rainy day, I decided to make a stop at Aquarium NB—a place I hadn’t visited since I was 12 years old on a school road trip. And that wasn't last summer let me tell you.

I quickly realized that the experience still holds its charm, no matter what your age.

A variety of marine life

Aquarium NB offers an impressive variety of specimens, showcasing the rich marine life diversity of the region. From fish to shellfish, each tank is a glimpse into the underwater world that lives just off our New Brunswick shores.

But the true stars of the show are most definitely Nenia and Oceanne the mother and daughter seal duo. These two playful seals are full of personality, capturing visitors' hearts with their synchronized swimming and puppy dog-like eyes. Watching them interact with their trainer Melanie, was so much fun.

The aquarium isn’t just a place to escape the rain; it’s a window into the fascinating world that exists beneath the ocean's surface, making it well worth a visit, rain or shine.

On day 2 the rain cleared, so I spent it walking along the bike path in Caraquet, taking in the views and creating image along the way.

Best Places to Eat in Caraquet:

Le Crapet Resto Bar and Mitchan Sushi

As the hours passed, I started getting hungry and made my way to a very lively spot called Le Crapet Resto Bar.

I don't eat much seafood but I love fish so I ordered their fish cakes. Wow! Perfectly crispy on the outside and tender and melt-in-your-mouth creamy on the inside. And the portion was very generous. Enough for left overs the next day. I also had a side of breaded cauliflower with the best spicy sauce. As a special treat, I opted for my go-to drink, a Moscow Mule with spiced rum—something I only indulge in occasionally, but always worth it. And did I mention the view? the marina to one side and fishing doc with impressive sized fishing boats on the other.

At Mitchan Sushi in Caraquet, I experienced sushi that set a new standard me. This wasn’t your average grocery or deli counter sushi; this was fine art on a plate. I started with the Tataki de Thon—seared tuna in a ponzu and ginger sauce, (drooling) topped with green onions and sesame. The tuna was absolute perfection, each bite melting in my mouth.

Then came the Dynamite Roll, a dreamy combination of tempura shrimp, avocado, cucumber, and flying fish roe with a spicy sauce. And let me tell you, these shrimp were nothing like the frozen kind you find at Costco—they were sweet, soft, and simply divine. The rice was still warm, adding to the overall experience.

A Perfect Stay with More Adventures Awaiting in the Acadian Peninsula

Even though the weather was fussy, my stay at Estrella Glamping Gîte was the right mix of relaxation and adventure. Whether you're a fan of local cuisine, exploring marine life, or hunting for vintage treasures, the Acadian Peninsula offers something for everyone.

On my next visit, I’m hoping to take a ride some of the Velo Route, which includes 610 km of trails throughout the region. Don't worry, I won't do it all at once. *LOL*

So, if you’re looking for your next getaway, consider making Estrella your home away from home—you won’t be disappointed.
