Gaspesie Road Trip-Part 2 Along the Coast, Between Sea and Sky

Leaving the Gardens Behind

We left Jardins de Métis and continued east, following the coast toward our first stay in Haute-Gaspésie.

Our home for the night was Panora Loges Fluviales, right on the shore of the Saint-Laurent in Sainte-Anne-des-Monts.

Where the River Feels Like the Ocean

And when I say right on the shore, I mean it.

The loges sit just a few steps from the water, tucked into a small cove at the foot of the cliffs. From inside, the enormous glass front makes the Saint-Laurent feel almost like it's part of the room.

At first glance, you might think you're looking out at the ocean. And honestly, it sure feels like it.

The river is so wide here that the other side disappears completely, leaving nothing but water meeting sky on the horizon.

And the sunsets…!!! They fill the loge with golden light.

A Place to Nest

It was the perfect place to nest after our first day on the road. The loges are hard to describe. They’re somewhere between a beautifully designed camper and a tiny modern home, with all the comforts of a proper little getaway.

Our loge had two bedrooms, a full kitchen and living area, and huge panoramic windows looking out over the magnificent fleuve Saint-Laurent. There’s also a fire pit outside, although honestly, with sunsets like these, who needs a fire?

Their philosophy is built around simplicity, quality and comfort, creating a high-end nature experience where you can be completely comfortable while still feeling immersed in the landscape.

Oh, and by the way, Panora is open year-round. So this view isn't just a summer thing.

Did I mention there's a hot tub? Which, after a day of driving, exploring and photographing everything in sight, sounded pretty darn good to me. You’ll have to take my word for it since I forgot to photograph it. Oups!

There was something wonderful about sitting there with the river in front of us, listening to the waves, with nowhere we had to be except right where we were.

In the moment.

And tomorrow, we'd be back on the road.

Following the coast. Looking for lighthouses.

Although, as it turned out, we were about to discover that the lighthouses weren't really going to be the most interesting part of the story.
